Exploring the Haunting World of Chernobylite: Gameplay, Storyline, and Secrets
Chernobylite was released for PC, PS4, and Xbox One during the third quarter of 2021 and quickly became one of the most anticipated video games of that period. This title earned praise for its unique mix of shooter-RPG base management and team gameplay amidst an environment that wasn't too "thick", yet had served as the backdrop in missions from Call of Duty Modern Warfare or S.T.A.L.K.E.R. (among many others). This review will focus on Chernobylite for PS5 and Xbox Series X/S, meaning the current generation of consoles, as well as an upgrade that was just made available and offers a much superior version overall.
Chernobylite immediately piqued my interest when released to the public, with its strange horror console game set during and immediately following the Chernobyl nuclear meltdown leading to an intriguing plotline and story reminiscent of Fallout from years past; something similar might exist now with Fallout 4. Furthermore, Chernobylite contains elements similar to Fallout while simultaneously mixing in elements from different titles which somehow blend them all together seamlessly; therefore I won't go any further into detail and start reviewing!
Chernobylite stands apart as an intriguing post-apocalyptic wasteland from Wasteland 3, Fallout 4, and Horizon Forbidden West; although all three games share an end-of-world charm. Underneath the surface, however, lies Chernobylite with its own twists. Strolling through its streets is among the great joys of playing since we find ourselves immersed in an environment reminiscent of Chernobylite and its extravagant city, complete with sounds generated by detectors, dim scenes (such as dolls watching television?) as well as hallucinations, and profound environmental effects.
Fallout 4 and Chernobylite: Familiar Fallout, New Anomalies
Chernobylite may seem like an unexpected departure for those accustomed to Fallout 4, as its post-nuclear Americana will feel less familiar in comparison. Instead of quirky companions and radio DJs who quip with ease, there are haunted memories and radiation sickness lurking just around every corner. Chernobylite adds supernatural anomalies that play havoc with both your mind and reality that Fallout 4 lacks. But where it lacks charm it makes up in strategic depth: building bases from the ground up or managing companions who come complete with histories and agendas are features not found within Fallout 4's modder community only!
Wasteland 3 and Chernobylite: Moral Mazes Versus Monstrous Choices are now on Amazon Prime Video!
Wasteland 3 challenges you with difficult moral choices that have lasting ramifications for both yourself and the settlements in which you find yourself. Chernobylite offers even harsher choices: perhaps sacrifice an acquaintance in exchange for rare upgrades, or doom an entire faction just so you can stay alive; all decisions in Chernobylite leave permanent impacts that make one question their humanity in light of Chernobylite's harsh climate.
Horizon Forbidden West Vs Chernobylite: Machines Versus The Monolith
Horizon Forbidden West plunges you into an environment filled with mind-boggling machine creatures; Chernobylite offers something more grounded. Instead of hunting down robot dinosaurs here, combat is focused more closely on scrap scavenging, fighting mutant monstrosities, and trying to avoid radiation poisoning - not so grand in scale but certainly plenty atmospheric! Exploring abandoned cities such as Pripyat is guaranteed to send shudders through your spine, with unsettling whispers echoing off its walls as tension remains long after leaving the controller down.
Conclusion
Which wasteland best suits your interests? For sunshine and quirky humor lovers, Fallout 4 may be your place. Meanwhile, Wasteland 3 provides moral quandaries with its peculiar characters while Chernobylite awaits those wanting an atmospheric journey into an inhuman nightmare world.
